The Global Military Advisory Council on Climate Change (GMACCC) – founded in 2009 - serves as an authoritative voice on the need for, and the nature of, action to be taken by the security community to reduce the risks posed to national security by a changing climate. The Council consists of 40 serving and retired military personnel and other security experts and 9 partners organisations from 20 countries working together to highlight the security implications of a changing climate.

The North-Atlantic Civil-Society Working-Group on Environment and Security (NCWES) – set up 2020 – is a network of 50 representatives of 25 organisations and 20 independent experts from academia, NGOs, think tanks and action groups who produced the report “Sustainable Peace & Security in a Changing Climate: Recommendations for NATO 2030” providing policy options and practical recommendations to help strengthen NATO in a time of new environmental-related challenges in the interest of promoting sustainable peace and security for all.
