
27 November 2025 - The report of the NATO Science for Peace Programme Advanced Research Workshop on “Climate and Security Action: The Role of Civil-Military Cooperation” has just been published by IOS Press in the NATO Science for Peace and Security Series.
The 3-day workshop - held in Sofia, Bulgaria, 16-18 July 2024 – was organised by the Crisis Response and Disaster Response Centre of Excellence (CMDR COE) and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) in association with the project on Climate and Security Action through Civil-Military Cooperation in Climate-related Emergencies (Project CASA).
Several GMACCC Members and other experts from Project CASA were among the ca. 25 speakers and more than 60 participants.
The purpose of the workshop was to meet the need for relevant and timely advice from defence and security experts, foster the next generation of experts and contribute to officials’ and public understanding of defence and security issues including the climate and security nexus.
Other members of the Organising Committee were Tom Deligiannis, CSAC, Ron Kingham, EDRC and Jessica Olcott Yllemo, ASP.
The 95-page report was edited by Orlin Nikolov, CMDR, Anna Brach, GCSP and Richard Brewin, Climate Change, Energy and Environmental Security and Science for Peace and Security Programme, NATO.
